Twigged for SketchUp connects the geometry designers already trust with Twigged's planting intelligence. Register an exact survey datum, brief a measured bed, return the approved planting in place, then create the key and schedule without replacing unrelated modelling.

Supported on SketchUp Desktop 2024–2026 on Windows and macOS. We have tested SketchUp 2026 on Windows by hand. The other versions and macOS pass our automated compatibility checks, but hands-on testing there is still to come, so please tell us if anything looks wrong. This downloadable beta is not yet digitally signed or approved by the Extension Warehouse. We are preparing it for SketchUp's Extension Warehouse; until it is listed there, install it only from this Twigged page. A SketchUp Desktop licence for 2024 or newer is required; SketchUp 2023 and earlier, SketchUp for Web and mobile viewers cannot run this extension.

Register and select the survey
Set an exact garden datum/+X from a known survey edge, or use quick first-bed alignment. Make each measured bed a named Group or Component and send that deliberate selection—not the whole model.

Brief and design with intelligence
Add an optional practical or arts-led brief, review the imported outline, then use the Planner and planting-bed designer with the project’s site evidence. SketchUp does not trigger paid AI work by itself.

Pull the planting into place
One scoped Pull returns every approved bed linked to this model as a single update. If any requested bed is unavailable, Twigged stops instead of widening the request to the whole garden.

Issue and update professionally
Create a counted plant key and revision-stamped CSV from an approved whole-project package, choose colour or monochrome, and reconcile later revisions by identity. Unresolved changes and local concept plants block final issue.

Key and schedule
Refresh a movable in-model plant key and save a counted, formula-safe CSV with botanical names, specification, spacing, lifecycle, mature sizes and revision evidence. Unresolved work blocks issue.
Technical or expressive
Switch lightweight Twigged symbols between a restrained design palette and monochrome. Your mapped office components are never recoloured.
Manual planting and standalone use
Open Extensions → Twigged → Plant Studio… for manual Click, Paint, Path, Drift and Matrix placement. Saved Office plants remain usable offline, and manual placement does not spend AI credits.
Organise plants into named beds and reusable lists, assign nursery stock sizes, then review quantities and explicitly approve an independent local schedule. Save CSV schedules, printable HTML and procurement worksheets, or prepare coordinated labels and colour or monochrome scenes for LayOut. Earlier issued documents stay available after edits. Prepared plant facts and local documents work offline.
Local designer approval is separate from Twigged cloud approval. Inspect added, removed and changed plants inside SketchUp. Native cloud approval needs explicit browser permission for the connected session and confirmation of each transfer; website review remains available. Nursery stock carries between local workspace and review. Choose all workspace planting to issue a combined local/cloud schedule, or explicitly limit it to local Studio plants. Copied instances and different stock sizes retain their quantities. These issues do not confer cloud approval. Windows SketchUp 26.2.243 has recorded native acceptance. Other versions, macOS and physical printing remain unverified. Short and multi-page schedules have passed Chromium PDF pagination checks. Full Shoot parity has not been independently verified. The extension is free. Plant Studio search, manual placement and local documents work without signing in. Linking a model to Twigged projects needs a Twigged account. Check current UK standalone availability and website plans before starting paid work.
Keep a saved model copy when updating the beta. If you need the previous package, download the v0.8.1 rollback package.
Install the beta
- Download the Twigged
.rbzpackage above without unzipping or renaming it. - In SketchUp, open Extensions → Extension Manager and choose Install Extension.
- Select the downloaded package and choose Yes when SketchUp asks whether you trust it.
- Restart SketchUp. Extensions → Twigged and the Twigged toolbar appear; on a Mac the toolbar is under View → Tool Palettes.
If SketchUp blocks this unsigned beta, invited testers can use Extension Manager → Settings → Approve Unidentified Extensions and approve Twigged specifically. Follow SketchUp's loading-policy guidance for your version. Use the checksum above to identify this download.
Try it in five minutes, no account needed
- Open the panel from the Twigged toolbar's leaf button, or Extensions → Twigged → Twigged…
- Under Plant, search for a plant by common or botanical name and choose a result.
- Choose Place in model and click in the model. Paint, Path, Drift and Matrix place many plants at your spacing; press Esc to finish.
- Use the view switch at the top of the panel to change between plan symbols and 3D plants. Under Look, show 3D plants in any month of the year.
- Click a placed plant to see its photo, sizes and counts on the plant card.
Link a measured model to a Twigged project
- Open Extensions → Twigged → Link Twigged Account…, match the code in your browser and approve the short-lived connection, then return to SketchUp.
- Put each measured bed in its own clearly named Group or Component. Select that container, not a bare face; the selected entity is the bed's stable identity.
- For exact set-out, select a known near-horizontal survey Edge and choose Set Survey Datum and +X. Choose the garden lower-left endpoint and direction; the red marker shows +X.
- Name or tag nearby survey Groups/Components—especially trees, hedges, walls and buildings—so Twigged can classify their bounded context conservatively.
- Select the named bed, optionally add a planting brief, then choose Send Selected Bed to Twigged. If you skipped the datum, Twigged offers quick alignment from the first reference bed.
If that transfer is interrupted, save the offered JSON file. After reconnecting, use Send Saved Bed File to Twigged…; the extension checks the original editable project and warns if the file came from another SketchUp model.
Beta boundary
Version 0.9.16 exchanges near-horizontal planar beds. Exact registration uses one selected survey Edge; quick alignment remains available for simpler work. Verify the marker against a known datum. One model supports up to 50 linked bed scopes. 3D plants and drawn plan symbols are stylised from each plant's size, habit and flowers rather than species-accurate models; map office components where you need your own. Apply the designer's normal site, specification, regulatory and construction review.
